Cat antics

Nothing exciting has been happening lately and I have nothing too entertaining or inspirational to write about. So, y'all get to meet the cats.

Transitioning

You just bought a horse off the track. First of all, thank you! These horses are amazing athletes and deserve a shot at a second career. I love seeing them being given that opportunity.

So now comes that transition period. In the first few weeks/months of being off the track it is easy for them to go from looking like this horse:

A.

To looking like this horse:

B.
Nasty grass hay belly and coat. Loss of muscle over the top line, on the hips, and on the neck. Needs wormed.

B.
Shows the loss of the muscling over the top line and the long coat better.

Tools of the trade

I'm a wierdo when it comes to grooming supplies. There are lots of things that I'm insistant, possibly anal, about having in the barn. Obviously, everyone needs the basics, but here are my five favorite additions to them.

Apple Cider Vinegar- I mix 1/3 ACV and 2/3 water for a grooming spray. It conditions their coats, manes, and tails. ACV doesn't make them slick or greasy like so many items on the market and costs about 95% less in the end. We also add it to the horses' feed.

Thoroughbred Classic Horse Show

I've been a complete nerd about trying to figure out the date for the next Thoroughbred Classic Horse Show. I just found out today that it's going to be April 12th and 13th at the L.A. Equestrian Center (it's been announced on Facebook, but not on their website yet). So want to go!!!!!

Beefheart really needs more show experience and it'd be good for Gunner too. Plus, it's right around my (gahhh) 30th birthday and I can't think of a better way to celebrate (forget about) it. Who needs Vegas? A show is sooo much better! I wouldn't mind spending a little bit of time in L.A. again either.

Gunner thinks ponying is overrated....

Making the best of what you have

Three days ago-I'm at home lying in bed sick and feeling like I'm going to die when I receive a text from my fiancé.

Apparently the manure cart does have a weight limit. Pictures to follow.

Great. Figures. (I'm not exactly a positive person when I'm not feeling well)

This is what happens when 1,100 lbs of weight lies in a wheelbarrow.
Apparently one of our horses was being a jerk to shoe and when the farrier got after him, he ran backwards, tripped over a rubber tub and landed on his back in the wheelbarrow. Fortunately, he was fine other than a few scratches. My grumpy response; he's too dumb to get hurt.
